Beware of cult and religious organizations on campus

Recently various cult and religious organizations enter Chiba University campuses and conduct unauthorized activities. Among them are a number of organizations whose activities have been designated by Japanese government as antisocial and fraudulent. They act in a deceptive manner by hiding their true names and posing as volunteer groups in order to scout students through participation in various events and activities. International students are particularly vulnerable because of their lack of Japanese language ability and familiarity with the culture, which makes it more difficult for them to see through the true intentions of such organizations.

While fully recognizing the freedom of worship and religion, Chiba University is concerned that international students may fall victim to deception and fraud. Should you notice anything suspicious or have doubts about the true nature of any activities you are invited to participate in by unknown persons, please feel free to take our advice by contacting Center for International Research and Education.
