兵庫県西宮市生まれ。京都大学総合人間学部自然環境学科を卒業後、京都大学大学院修士課程を経て、2003年東京大学大学院農学生命科学研究科博士課程修了。「シロイヌナズナの葉緑体分化における転写システムの変換と転写制御の研究」により博士(農学)の学位を取得。日本学術振興会特別研究員DC1、科学技術振興機構CREST研究員、東京大学分子細胞生物学研究所博士研究員を経て、2008年千葉大学大学院園芸学研究科にテニュアトラックシステムの准教授として採用。千葉大学生命系科学推進室員を兼務。専門は植物生理学および分子生物学。植物に特有のオルガネラ(細胞小器官)である色素体に着目し、色素体遺伝子の転写制御、色素体分化の分子機構の解明を目指している。また、光合成微生物や高等植物における環境適応機構、特に光に応答した遺伝子発現調節、細胞内シグナル伝達のメカニズムについても研究を進めている。
