Prof. Amachi is an assistant professor in Lab. of Microbiology. His research interests are environmental microbiology, microbial physiology, general microbial ecology, and applied microbiology. His current and future research projects include bacterial-mediated transformation (oxidation, reduction, accumulation and volatilization) of iodine in the environments, quantification of denitrifying bacteria in shallow coastal sediments receiving high nitrogen inputs, functional analysis of phyllospheric microbial communities, and acid resistance of probiotic lactic acid bacteria.
