Erika Mukuta was born in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. She received a Ph.D. degree in Agriculture from the Graduate School of Horticulture, Chiba University.
She has worked as a researcher at the Central Region Agricultural Research Center, National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), and currently holds the position of Assistant Professor in January 2025. Through field studies, she is engaged in empirical research to clarify the factors for sustainable development in local food systems.
She is particularly interested in economic diversification activities centered on the direct sale of agricultural products and the exchange function of farmers' markets.
