Nobuhiko Shigyo specializes in the ecology of soil microbial communities and their impacts on forest ecosystems. He holds a Ph.D. in Agriculture from the University of Tokyo and served as a Senior Researcher at the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute (FFPRI) before joining Chiba University in January 2026. His work employs a multidisciplinary approach that combines molecular biology, statistical modeling, and field experiments to disentangle the complexity of belowground ecosystems. Key research topics include the spatiotemporal dynamics of soil microbes and the driver mechanisms of litter decomposition and carbon/nitrogen cycling, with a particular focus on the home-field advantage.
