Prof. Sakamoto was born at Karatsu in Saga Prefecture, Japan. After he had graduated from Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences, The University of Tsukuba, he started to work for Faculty of Horticulture, Chiba University in 1990. His major fields are Plant Nutrition, Rhizosphere Microbiology and Soil Microbiology. He received Young Soil Scientist Award in 1995. His research subjects are 1) Host plant genes involving in the mutual association between soybean and microorganisms, 2) Development of heavy metal tolerance of plant by the inoculation of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, 3) Biomass of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in Japanese arable fields, 4) Isolation of plant growth promoting fungi and its practical use.
